Photons Canada is an industry-led national photonics organization
The mission of Photons Canada (Canadian Photonic Industry Consortium) is to assist Canadian companies to optimize their operations by facilitating and accelerating the application of photonic technologies that improve quality, productivity and profitability.
Listening to our members, we respond to their needs in order to support them in their success and growth.
Our team is committed to the progress and development of our members and colleagues.
Transparency and honesty are an integral part of our organization. We value ethics and fairness in decision-making and in our actions.
On April 1, 2012, CIPI (Canadian Institute for Photonic Innovations) and CPC (Canadian Photonic Consortium) merged to create the Canadian Photonic Industry Consortium, known as Photons Canada.
Photons Canada is an industry-led photonics organization with the objective of accelerating the growth of Canadian industry through photonics.
Thanks to Cluster Building funding from NGen, Canada’s Advanced Manufacturing Global Innovation Cluster, Photons Canada developed a membership-based virtual technology cluster focused on leveraging Canada’s photonics expertise to support the growth of industry and the creation of new industrial applications.
Photons Canada’s unique benefits are available to the entire industrial base, in providing expert and objective advice on how to best apply photonics to business and technology challenges, on who to work with in this exciting and valuable technology space, and on how to best leverage public support at the federal, provincial and local levels in such ventures.
With a network of industry, R&D organizations and researchers, CPIC provides knowhow and rapid access to state-of-the-art global photonic technologies. As an efficient knowledge exchange organization, Photons Canada is the best vehicle for Canadian industry to manage information on the possibilities of photonic applications and to match industry needs with opportunities.
Photonics technology plays a pivotal role in numerous sectors of Canada’s economy and significantly impacts the daily lives of its citizens. By harnessing the power of light, photonics-based technologies offer immense opportunity for innovation and improvement across industries, as well as the potential to drive positive societal change, improve quality of life, and address pressing global challenges.
Today, the Canadian photonics industry consists of more than 400 photonics companies with more than 25000 employees, 36 Canadian colleges and universities with active photonic researchers, and multiple research institutes dedicated to advancing photonics technology across numerous sectors, such as:
- Communications and Microelectronics
- Defence and Security
- Health and Medical
- Natural resources
