About Photons Canada
Founded in 2012, Photons Canada (the Canadian Photonic Industry Consortium) is an industry-led photonics organization dedicated to fostering the growth and advancement of the photonics industry in Canada.

About the position

  • Be located in Canada (Candidates based in Montreal, Ottawa, and Québec City will be given priority, however, other locations will be considered)
  • Part-time: Two (2) days/week

Overview
The Executive Director is a leadership role responsible for overseeing all operations, driving organizational growth, and ensuring effective communication with industry stakeholders. The role involves managing staff, financial activities, and membership development, and playing a key role in advancing the objectives of Photons Canada. The ideal candidate will bring strong strategic planning skills and serve as a champion not only for Photons Canada but the Canadian photonics industry as whole.

As the Executive Director, you will direct the organization toward the vision set by the Board of Directors, in alignment with Photons Canada’s mission and values, and be instrumental in securing the organization’s long-term success.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Supervision:
    • Oversee and manage day-to-day operations of Photons Canada to ensure efficiency and alignment with organizational goals, and report regularly on progress to the board.
    • Work closely with the board, contract staff and volunteers to coordinate activities and optimize internal processes.
  • Fundraising and Financial Management:
    • Identify and secure new funding sources to support Photons Canada initiatives and projects.
    • Work with the financial committee to ensure proper accounting practices and supervise the annual audit with a contract accounting firm.
    • Oversee the budget and present regular updates to the Board on the financial status of the organization.
  • Membership Growth:
    • Develop and execute strategies to increase membership in collaboration with the board and contract staff.
    • Cultivate relationships with existing and potential members, addressing their needs and ensuring a high level of satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably within the photonics industry or a related field.
  • Experience with budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to represent Photons Canada professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders.
