Photonics sensors in advanced manufacturing and their benefits

We have shown in previous articles in the past years that Photonics sensors and optical sensors have an essential role in advanced manufacturing.

On May 11, 2021 – CMC Electronics Montréal, has released a press statement of its new Dual Wavelength InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode (APD) Preamplifier Module. It stands out by its “capability to provide the best signal to noise ratio in its class. Its fast overload recovery also minimizes receiver damage and usage interruption from high laser bursts.”

“This product is well suited for high-speed low-light level detection, industrial, analytical, applications as well as high-volume applications and when you have your own temperature compensation circuit.”

The new InGaAs APD receiver module (pn: 264-339822-VAR) can detect optical signals at both 1064nm and 1570nm. includes high-density microcircuit combined with advanced optoelectronics, nanosecond recovery from laser bursts without damage, the ability to detect signal power in ultra-low light levels (in nW), low noise equivalent power (NEP) at high temperatures and a compact design minimizing parasitic noise.

The measurands possible by different optical sensors are Temperature, Velocity Liquid level, Pressure, Displacement (position), Vibrations, Chemical species, Force radiation, pH- value, Strain, Acoustic field and Electric field.

Different Types of Optical Sensors

The data measured by sensors can be used in operating the system efficiently, monitoring the operations for any abnormalities, controlling the operations, utilizing the resources effectively, making design changes to improve performance further and enhancing future product portfolio.

So, what are the benefits of the use of sensors in advanced manufacturing if the data from the sensors can be used as previously described?

I can only think of one answer: a modern manufacturing that is environmentally friendly and socially responsible.
